The Israeli Orthopaedic Association (IOA)
is a non profitable organization.

The Israeli Orthopaedic Association (IOA) founded in 1984 is the official home organization of the orthopaedic professionals in Israel.
Our goals are to develop and promote the profession in Israel and abroad, including congresses and meetings of the IOA and it's various sub organizations.
We aspire to promote current up to date education, and encourage professional and interpersonal cooperation among our members.
Every year we gather in a three days congress to report and learn about the news and academic activity in Israel.

There are 8 professional associations: Pediatric Orthopedics, Hip Society, Knee and arthroscopy society, Trauma, Spine, Foot and ankle, Shoulder and Elbow, and Skeletal Tumors society.

Lately the Israeli Ministry of health issued operative instructions to prevent stalling of hip fracture beyond 48 hours. These instructions are the fruit of years' work of the IOA, who managed to convince the State Comptroller to influence the government in the importance of the matter.

The IOA has published a Position Paper to the National Trauma Committee recommending a comprehensive educational trauma program, and demanded the funding of 6 positions for educating orthopedic traumatoligists. The goal is to raise a fresh and highly professional dedicated generation, who will continue to nurture and incorporate this important branch in the daily orthopedic work of each of the orthopedic wards.

A new syllabus was adopted, adjusted with the new developments and technology of the last decade. The IOA has joined the EFORT – European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. In current years the IOA focused mainly on Hip fractures, orthopedic trauma, amelioration of the orthopedic education to residents/registrars, including the examination and validation process, and setting standard criteria for the orthopedic residency. Not as before, an independent educational system has been established by the IOA dedicated only to the general orthopedic and orthopedic trauma, also for both stage A and B examinations.
